One man is into portraiture with a range involving subjects like alligators to parakeets to a prized black angus and this is growing to become a successful and highly specialized art business. A fine quality photograph is all I need for a painting of a pet flea, says the master. To date, he has confined his work to an alligator, rabbits, horses, birds, cats, and dogs. His curiosity for creatures and creativity grew as he was growing up. There are a lot of artists who know that selling fine paintings cannot provide for a good living when it comes to supporting a wife and a youngster. When he moved to the Bay Area not only did he continue his studies but also aimed at a career in commercial art. He started his own display business in World War II and engaged in fine art as a hobby. It was suggested by his wife that he develop his hobby into a business after he impressed a friend and his pair of siamese cats as he made a portrait of the felines that almost ruined it by purring and rubbing against it. He went into the pet portrait painting business in earnest, with increasingly happy financial result. The cow palace was the home of his freshest masterpieces. This led to numerous requests for portraits of fine show horses, a champion rabbit, and a pet parakeet whose owner proudly mentions that she raised it from an egg. Requested by a famous television actor singer who was also a recording artist was for him to make a portrait of his horse. The winning black angus was the subject of the portrait he was contracted to do. Aside from having subjects that rarely kick he considers it to be better than painting people portraits. In a big university in Santa Clara there is a new director of the gallery and museum and in San Jose she was the former director of a big museum and she took on the job after a reverend died early last month. Well known in the art world is what the new director is and she exhibited locally at the palace of the legion of honor and nationally as well. The works of a local sculptor will be exhibited at a gallery in San Francisco. It is in the exhibit where thirty of his works will be displayed and these will cover neo classical to highly abstracted forms. He is a photographer and writer not to mention a highly talented artist and he also conducts a ballet school. Where he starred is the movie entitled spectre of a rose. A famous museum will be prolonging the display of more than 200 objects, paintings, prints, books, and sculptures which come from a private collection. Spanning 50 years is the collection of a couple from Pennsylvania. Apart from the scores of other historic greats there are works by a dozen renowned painters. For the book collection of the husband it got started when he was still a student of Harvard but he has purchased many of the more valuable objects on installment adding to his collection.
