Hi, I'm Boruch Fishman and welcome to another episode of Close Up. Today, I will share information with you that I learned recently from Dovid Davis, a Baltimore pest control expert and Director of A #1 Pest Control, a Baltimore pest control company about pests that invade the home in winter. Most homeowners, who have been putting up with various types of insect pests all summer, can heave a sigh of contentment when the colder temperatures comes in. As any pest control specialist can tell you, there are a reduced number of calls for insect pest problems in the winter. Cockroaches, for example, mostly die out. The rare winter cockroach is easily dispatched with. Because ofto the warmth found in the kitchen and near electrical appliances and machines such as refrigerators and computers, the roaches tend to come out in the open where they are easy to kill. Antsfrequentlycome into the home when the weather first turns cold in the fall. However, by winter most ants are gone and the remains of ant hills, which they had tried to construct in the kitchen or elsewhere in the home will be mostly empty. Termites also like to breed in the spring and fall and are not usually noticed in the cold months. And the same is true of stinging insect pests and most other invading bugs. However, according to Dovid Davis there are several types of pests which are often found in the winter. These pests include warm blooded mammals such as raccoons and squirrels. When the colder weather comes in, these warm blooded mammals want to migrate in doors where warmer temperatures can be found. A nice snug household is ideal for these types of pests. Mice, for example will look for any means of ingress and then seek to nest behind appliances or in holes in the wall near the kitchen. Nesting places, such as these, provide, a great vantage point from which they can forage at night for scraps of food or unpackaged or even packaged provender stored in the kitchen. Squirrels and Raccoons, on the other hand, prefer the attic, a crawl space or out of the way corner in the garage or storage hut. To get to these desired winter get away lodgings the animals will either gnarl through the roof or wall or else seek an already existent hole as a means of ingress. These animals will come and go for a while, filling up their borrowed home with nuts and otherfoods that will help them make it through the winter. And, if not caught, these intruders will live and breed in their winter home, unbeknown to their host. According to Dovid Davis, the first sign that winter pests are in the home are frequently sounds in the wall, (usually for rodents), and sounds coming from attic, (for squirrels and raccoons). Other signs of mice infestation include mice droppings, small circular gnarl holes in food packages, and the general smelly stench that hangs around places where mice live. If you believe that a wild animal or rodent has invaded your house don't hesitate to call an exterminator.. The pest specialist will help you determine if there are pests in your home and if so he will glad to help you get rid of them. Well folks, that's it for another episode of Close Up, I'm Boruch Fishman, have a great day!
