By: Bryan Freeno

If you are looking to squeeze out some extra cash in this rough economy, one of the best ways to do it is through using some sort of alternative energy. If you look around for a little bit on the internet, you will realize that one of the most popular sources of alternative energy is by using wind turbines to power your house. But can it actually work or are the wind power for home ads deceiving you? As you scan through each word of this article, you will fill your mind with information as to how wind turbines work and whether or not you should consider purchasing one.

Wind Power is extremely healthy for the environment so this is one reason many people try it out. The majority of energy sources out there pollute the air, but wind turbines are all natural.

If you don’t know how a wind turbine works, it is actually a very simple process. Just think of the opposite of a fan, a fan needs electricity to make the blades spin. The opposite is true with a wind turbine, the wind makes the blades move and the which then eventually turns into electricity. It goes like this: the wind makes the blades on the turbine spin, the blades cause the shaft to spin, then the shaft is connected to the generator and the generator produces electricity.

But do they work well or are they a waste of money?

It really depends on a number of things, including where you live. If you live in an area that has a lot of wind then you will be able to get a good amount of electricity from a wind turbine which means your electric bill will be cut a good amount. The biggest con of wind powered energy is the fact that you are still very dependent on the weather. If there is no wind you will not generate electricity.

Possibly the biggest problem with wind power for homes is thunder and lightning. They can easily be damaged during these kind of storms. It has been reported that the majority of wind turbines that are broken became broken because of lightning.

The truth is, unless you live in an area that produces a lot of wind and doesn’t have very many thunderstorms, then you will be perfectly fine getting a wind generator. But if you live in an area that has no wind and a lot of thunderstorms then it may be a bad idea.
