Whenever she works at home, this graphic artist is haunted by a bunch of little faces. While she was at home, much of her time was spent on work she didn't particularly find enjoyable. There are dogs and cats looking at her from outside. Those faces are launching a new career path for this graphic artist who is 34. While on a trip to Texas visiting her parents she looked at the pictures of her animals and began to paint their images on canvas. She bases the colors used in the portrait from the animal's personality, and not its actual color. She makes it her goal to capture the essence of the animal when she paints. Knowing the personality of the animals allows me recreate it with colors. It was on a camping trip in Mississippi that she created her first painting, a mixed breed. This dog, red in color, remained close to the couple. To illustrate the jealous side of her dog, she used green. She's not the first person to use unusual colors for animal portraits. A cajun artist created an icon in 1984 when he painted his first blue dog, a haunting pale blue canine with red eyes, inspired by his dog who died in 1980. The blue dog stands out in her paintings like a stamp on an envelope. People see the blue dog paintings as a touch of humor on the part of the author, but the author actually sees it as something that bothers his inner being. He made the paintings in such a way that, even if they looked comical, they had a spiritual message in them. The same questions that haunt humankind are what the dog asks us as she stares at us. She wants to capture the animal's vitality in her art. Using an array of bright colors and unusual patterns, she tries to recreate them. These animals which she now owns were rescued from either the streets or from animal shelters. One of the dogs she adopted kept on going to other people's houses from a neighbor's house. She marketed her pet portraits by going into local veterinarian offices and leaving fliers. Her clients should give her photos of the animals and also a description of the personality of the animal, she explains. When she understands the animal, only then does she pick the colors to use. According to the owner, the customers are given something more through her portraits. Someone painted her a bright yellow, which sums up that energetic personality perfectly. A person who knows the subject in a portrait will find much greater attraction to it, a gallery owner points out. Looking at a portrait is not the same as appreciating its artistry.
