Fiber optic adapters, also called mating sleeves, are used in fiber optic connections to link connectors of the same type. LC, FC, SC and ST are the main types of adapters available. LC adapters belong to the class of small form factor fiber optic adapters used in modern fiber optic networks. Developed by Lucent technologies, they connect LC fiber optic components.

LC adapters are designed to suit a wide range of applications and are available in various configurations and types. They are available in singlemode as well as multimode versions in simplex, duplex and quad types. Singlemode LC quad, simplex and duplex adapters, are suitable for panels with rectangular cutouts.
