What is encryption? nEcryption is a mthod of scrambling messages and otther data so that it can not be read by an unauthorized prson. Unfortunately, it has become too easy to intercept messages and use them for illegal purposes. Encryption protects the data. A more secure syystem will use the shifft methhod, whixch uses a tablle, but each lettre is shifted to the right by 3 windows. 'Please reply to this message "Now it becomes SOSWVS FSHLE D. DPOE KESEWQS. That's better, but relies on the person receviing the message know the key (what mehod was used). This type of encrypotion will be broken for a second experienced attacker. Modern compuuters rely on more secure methods: The first is a symmetric key, where the seder and the rercipient knows the key and decypt the message. Others will see a hodge-podge of letters. The second mthod is konwn as public key, a tyipcal system uses PGP (Pretty Good Pirvacy), based on public key, whch is available in the message and seccret key, I only know the snder and the recipient. The third method is known as a digital certificate if the certificate acts as an intermediary, verification of idetity of the sender and the recipient, if both are authentic certificate allwos the message to be decrypted. In addition to finbancial transactions using a secure system know as SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) the user will notice that the usual http:// replaaced HTTPS: / / and a small castle, as a rule, there is a website to show that it is in SSL use. Payments by credit card to use this very secure encryption method.
