Most people travel to Tanzania to go on safari. However, it can also be enjoyable to travel to Tanzania and visit some of the cities in Tanzania. One of the easiest cities to visit is Dar es Salaam, as many international flights use this as the only place served in Tanzania. Arusha is another convenient city to visit, as it is near many national parks good for going on safari in. Moshi is a good city to explore some if you are visiting Tanzania for the main purpose of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. Dar es Salaam is where most people who travel to Tanzania at least fly through. There are several things to do in the city depending on your interests. The Makumbusho Village Museum is a good choice for those that want to learn about different Tanzanian cultures. This museum is made up of houses that represent the traditional homes of different ethnic groups that live in Tanzania. Dar es Salaam also has a lively nightlife for those interested in visiting night clubs while in Tanzania. Additionally, there are some beaches including ones that can be accessed by taking a ferry to Zanzibar from Dar es Salaam. Arusha is another common city visited by those that travel to Tanzania. Many just pass through Arusha on their way to various national parks for safaris. There are several different national parks great for going on safari in near Arusha, such as the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Conservation Area. There is also some things to entertain visitors who want to explore Arusha. The local markets tend to be the main attraction, but it is also popular to take cultural excursions to visit and learn about local tribes. Some travelers also visit Arusha as a stopover before climbing the nearby Mount Meru. Moshi is most often visited by those that travel to Tanzania with the goal of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. There is little to specifically do in Moshi, but the market is good. There are also some minor landmarks interesting to check out including the Commonwealth War Cemetery and metal pillar from which people used to be hanged.
