Tips for the correct cost structure for your business and its effect on your success

By: Adara Zulpo

Marketing an online business that offers a service has parallels with product businesses, but there are important differences. Many online services will look at what is needed and then formulate a quote for the job. Much depends on whether the quote is accepted, or not, but either way always tends to result in annoying after thoughts. If you get the gig, then you may be inclined to challenge yourself. Should you have quoted a higher price? Is it way too low or too high, etc. If you requested for more, would it be a reasonable price or exchange of value? A lot of times unexpected tasks occur which almost always produce more work; sometimes it seems to be inevitable. So let's take a look at this important area of your service business.

There are a thousand different service based businesses on the net, most likely more. But there is a critical difference going on that we want to point out. You do much more than sell a service; you offer valuable benefits to the businesses of your clients. Those are two totally different things, and the latter is far more powerful for your marketing. You will see that people place a higher value on benefits they receive. When someone thinks of a service provider, or receiving a service, there's a tremendously general feeling attached to it. People are so accustomed to getting some sort of service that they do not give it a second thought. Stop considering yourself as a provider of a service; you deliver terrific benefits to your clients.

Did you ever really sit down and consider how much your time and what you supply are worth? This procedure is really not about guessing, but you need to take a number of elements into account. It is nothing at all new or shocking that people tend to under-appreciate what they have to offer and the value of it. But on the other hand you should never swing to the extreme reverse direction. Do understand that if you don't have experience, then that should rightly affect what you can sensibly charge. If you're a little stuck about the way to approach this, then a great place is by going to Google. All you need to do is find others who provide the same kind of service you will, and check out what they cost or offer for their services. Of course that will provide you with a real world idea of what people are asking.

We will inform you upfront and in no uncertain terms that you should not ever negotiate over your service fees. We have observed this too many times; businesses attempting to get you to cut corners on your fees. Even if you clearly state your fees on your site, you will find people who will want to get you to come down as much as possible. Dropping your fees simply reflects poorly on you; as if you have low self-esteem and self worth, etc. The second you do that, then it is downhill from that point on - and that's the truth; people will continue to try and get advantage of you.
