If physical punishment does not work anymore, then, what have you got left to discipline your child? Some parents end up spanking their child but this punishment is only practiced as the last resort. Hence, if this does not work anymore, how will you then correct his behavior in years to come? Time outs. Time out is an effective form of youngster discipline and opted by many parents. Unlike physical punishment time outs generally do not involve any hitting or inflicting physical pain to a youngster. With time outs, you are mainly helping your child understand and discern right from wrong, or good from bad. Time outs let your youngster reflect on his behavior through a "naughty chair". Time outs to be effective must be free from any distractions that can perturb his thoughts. Time outs also need a follow up conversation with the child to see if he has truly mulled over his negative behavior by asking him why he was "isolated" on the "naughty chair".
