Anyone buying a second hand vehicle wants to be sure the car will last. Customers will be more likely to make a purchase if they know they can trust the seller. In order to provide trust, GM has created a special guarantee backed up by a 117 point inspection process. The testing is conducted by GM technicians, and once a vehicle has passed the exam, the dealership will back up the sale with the certified 12 month/12,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty. The 117 point inspection is divided into 6 sections. These include the road test, the functional test, the under hood test, the exterior test, the interior test, the under vehicle test, the interior detailing test, the exterior detailing test and the maintenance test. Once a car has passed the inspection, it is eligible for the 12/12 warranty, plus an additional limited 100,000 mile, 5 year warranty. The solid guarantee increases the selling value of the car after it has been used. Buyers fell more confident about purchasing a certified used GM vehicle and therefore sellers find more willing customers. It is important to note, however, that the value of the guarantee may only be as good as the technicians who perform it at very GM centers. This fact is underscored by the recent experience of a buyer in Miami Florida, who purchased a van from Tropical Auto Group (Tropical Chevrolet), 8880 Biscayne Blvd Miami, FL 33138-3343 phone number 1-866-791-4531. According to a first hand report from Tony Jacob the buyer, he purchased a certified used GM van from this company, but 2 days later noticed that the transmission wasn't working. Furthermore, the brakes were not working at a level he would have expected after the inspection. He took the van back to Tropical Chevrolet, and described the problem. The company readily acknowledged that the transmission wasn't working properly, but instead of offering to fix it, as mandated by the guarantee, they informed Mr. Jacob that the technician who fixes transmissions would be gone for 1-2 months. When Mr. Jacobs went to talk with the manager, Mark Diaz, he made fun of Mr. Jacobs and humiliated him in the presence of customers. Mr. Jacobs then called the owner, IAN WILDSTEIN, who refused to answer Mr. Jacobs phone calls. Mr. Jacobs noted that the company has not lived up to their agreement and have dealt with him in a dishonest manor. He added that he would not recommend Tropical Chevrolet to anyone wishing to buy a second had GM car.
