The Tanzania wildlife is a big reason many people travel to Tanzania. The best way to fully enjoy the wildlife in Tanzania is to go on safari. For the most part many of the national parks offer very similar opportunities for spotting wildlife, but some types of animals can only be seen in certain areas. Many of the animals you expect to see on an African safari are among the Tanzania wildlife variety. This includes big game animals such as zebras, elephants, lions, and giraffes. One of the main commonly spotted animals when on safari in Tanzania is the wildebeest, especially if you visit the Serengeti National Park during the great migration. Some of the other animals you can see in Tanzania include hippos, gazelles, elands, and kudus. Chimpanzees can also be seen, especially at Gombe Stream and Mahale Mountains National Parks. Predators are a category of Tanzania wildlife that is easiest seen in the Serengeti National Park, especially during the migration. The main predators that are present include lions, cheetahs, and leopards. It is the common sightings of these predators that make the Serengeti one of the most popular places to go on safari in Africa. Seeing endangered species can be some of the most fun Tanzania wildlife spottings when on safari. By virtue of being endangered they are often rare in the wild, but some of them are still regularly spotted if you visit the right areas. For example, if you want to see a black rhino you have the best chance to see them by going on safari in the Ngorongoro Crater. Red colobus monkeys are most often seen in the Jozani Forest in Zanzibar. Ruaha National Park is the place to visit if you want to try and see wold dogs while the Ngezi Forest in Pemba is where the Pemba flying foxes are most often spotted. Some of the other endangered animals that can still be found in various parts of Tanzania include turtles of the following species: hawksbill, green, olive ridley, and leatherback. Birds are another category of Tanzania wildlife. There are over 1,000 different species that live in Tanzania. One of the most popular is the flamingo, which can be seen in many places including Lake Manyara and Lake Natron. Some of the birds that only live in Tanzania include the Udzungwa forest partridge, the Pemba green pigeon, the Usambara weaver, and the Usambara eagle owl.
