Tanzania is located in the middle of the East Coast of Africa. The country of Tanzania shares borders with quite a few other countries in Africa. This includes Kenya and Uganda to the north. To the west it shares its border with Rwanda, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The countries of Zambia, Malawi, and Mozambique border the country of Tanzania to the south. The geography of Tanzania is dominated by a large central plateau that ranges in height from 900 meters to 1,800 meters. The Great Rift Valley in Tanzania is formed by the mountain ranges known as the Eastern Arc, Southern Highlands, and Northern Highlands. The tallest mountain in Tanzania is Mount Kilimanjaro, which is also the tallest freestanding mountain in the world. Tanzania also has the lowest point in Africa. The lowest point is in the deepest part of the lake bed of Lake Tanganyika. Another extreme that is partially in Tanzania is Lake Victoria, which is the largest lake in Africa. Tanzanias climate cannot be defined by the normal seasons of fall, winter, spring, and summer, but rather only by the wet and dry seasons. Tanzania has two different wet seasons. One of the seasons is called the short rain season and lasts from late October to late December. The other rainy season is called the long rains and lasts from March to May. One of the good times to visit Tanzania climate wise is June to August because the whether is bearable in the daytime and cool during the evening. However, for safaris this season tends to not be that great for seeing wildlife. This is because the water is easy for them to find and they do not congregate to get water much. The best time to visit to see animals is January and February. However, the climate is not as bearable this time of year. During this time of year, even locals tend to find the weather too hot. The wildebeast are plentiful and taking a Serengeti safari can be amazing with the amount of wildlife spotted, but be sure to prepare for the heat and try not to let it ruin the whole experience of your vacation in Tanzania, Africa. If you think the heat will be a problem for you, then you probably will enjoy other times of year more even if the wildlife can be a little tougher to see.
