The Family Learning Centre has a short time ago been created to encourage the local community to gain key basic skills at a local centre providing educational chances such as English Language promote classes in the form of ESOL, basic IT skills and Maths. Al courses are available at different levels, begining at pre-entry up to entry level 3.

We also supply Family Education courses that involve mum and infant to build a better association via working together in different activities. These activities will also contribute towards the progress of the toddler.

To allow parents/carers to create full function of the adult education courses provided that do not involve kids. There is a on-site Crèche you can generate function of for FREE. The Crèche is a part of Little Hippos Day nursery who have been providing quality pre schools since 2007.

Adult Courses

The adult courses taught at The Family Education centre are provided by the Personnel Education Alliance (WEA) and Birmingham Adult Learning Services (BAES). The WEA and BAES share the aims and objectives of the Family Learning Centre, which are to remove barriers to education:

* by being responsive in the heart of communities

* by promoting Learning for Life

* by creating equality and opportunity and challenging discrimination

* by believing in people, communities, and their potential to change through learning.

By providing English language, literacy and numeracy promote classes it would equip individuals with basic skills to get on with their every day life with some confidence, including making demands on services to have their requirements met or turn out to be employable.

The IT skills would provide them with basic training to keep up with the new technological world including making them more marketable when taking steps for employment. Additionally personal progress courses would identify individual personal areas for progress such as lack of job search skills, interview techniques, filling in company application forms, beneficial communications skills hence strengthening an individuals chances of employment.

The WEA and The Family Education Centre will work together to make available free ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) and IT courses. What will you gain by completing the course? The training courses would proceed people's life skills providing them with tools to improve their living conditions.

Childcare

The Family Education Centre understands the requirements and responsibilities of moms/carers therefore we also have a on-site crèche to take care of your kid/children while you learn. There are three rooms to separate kids of different ages. 0 to 1, 1 to 2 and 2 to 3.

The crèche facility has had a independent risk assessment and CCTV cameras installed in every room to verify the safety and security of your kid. Crèche facilities have been prepared to the highest of standards to accommodate for the needs of 0-3 year old kids. The crèche is separated from the rest of the centre with a key pad lock, only members of workers will have access to the code to enter the crèche.

Day nurseries is free for students attending any course at The Family Education Centre. Little Hippos Nursery school which is based on the lower floor will be providing the nursery schools.

Little Hippos Pre school is a Ofsted approved organisation and has been in the local press for its outstanding achievements and success. If parent/carer is attending any courses pre schools is only free for the period of time spent in the classroom, whether or not further hours are required they must be paid for by the parent/carer.

Tuition Classes

Tuition classes will be provided for children aged 11 - 16 years. Subjects covered will be English, Maths and Science ICT (Information Communications Technology) will be available at a latter date. The tutors are a combination of qualified teachers, graduates and trainee teachers. All tutors will have a criminal note background make sure (CRB) and all classrooms have CCTV installed. There will be different time the classes will happen during term time and holiday periods.

During school Holidays the lesson times will be:

Monday 10:00-11:30 English

Wednesday 10:00-11:30 Maths

Friday 10:00-11:30 Science

During term time the class times will be:

Monday 16:30-18:00 English

Wednesday 16:30-18:00 Maths

Friday 16:30-18:00 Science

Every child must be registered to attend the classes. Registration forms can be obtained at the Family Learning Centre or requested to be posted. You must register your infant a week prior to the desired lesson as the tutor needs to prepare appropriate lesson plans for your child's level.

There is a £12 fee per lesson per child. This is to be paid on the day whether or not attending one lesson a week or at the end of the week whether or not attending more than one lesson. Whether any lesson the infant has been registered for is missed a £6 missed lesson fee will be charged. The missed lesson fee is void if a weeks notice of vacation is given or whether a exchangeable reason and proof is provided.
