Parents get a false sense of security in regards to their children while they attend school. I raised 5 very special children that were adopted and I raised as a single male parent. I know that once they left for school I assumed they would be in the hands of educational professionals and would be safe. As special needs children I had prepared them for the typical harassment aimed these kids. Children with special needs have always been teased and ridiculed by some of the other kids in school. Many children who go to school are not prepared for what the might face, the school bully. It can be a far more serious problem than many parents realize. Here are a few Important School Bullying Statistics from recent Surveys: *More than 75 percent of our pupils are subjected to bullying by a bully or Cyber-Bully and suffer physical, psychological and/or emotional abuse. *More than 20% of our students acknowledge to being a bully or participating in bully-like actions. *Over one half of bullying & Cyber bullying incidents go unreported to authorities or parents. *In recently completed surveys revealed over one hundred thousand children carried guns to classes as a result of being bullied. *twenty eight percent of children who bring guns in school have been witness to violence in their families. *On a daily average 160,000 kids skip school because they worry they are going to be bullied if they go to classes. *On a monthly average 282,000 children are physically attacked by a school bully every month. *Every seven minutes a child is bullied on a schoolyard with more than 85% of those instances occurring without any adult intervention. *46 percent of boys and twenty six percent of females confess to having been involved in physical confrontations as a result of being bullied. *More than eighty five percent of our teenagers reveal that revenge as an aftermath of being bullied is the main reason for school shootings and homicide. *The leading five states regarding reported incidents of bullying & Cyber-Bullying are California, New York, Illinois, Pennsylvania, and Washington. *A child commits suicide because of being bullied every 30 minutes with 19,000 bullied kids attempting to commit suicide during the course of one year. As you can see from the school bullying statistics listed above it is indeed a serious problem that must be addressed whenever discovered. It is unfortunate that the majority of school bullying cases go unreported. As a result it is hard for educators and parents to help the victim in dealing with the harm that may have been inflicted upon them by a bully. There is not emerging a new class of bully, the Cyber Bully, who is proving to be a major concern in the health and safety of our children. Cyber bullying is the bullying of children through the use of the world-wide-web and follows the victims to the schools and classes when they return.. It is so significant that over 1/3 of our kids who utilize the net are casualties of the Cyber-Bully.
