One of the key presentation skills that is lacking today is how to present with confidence. But why is confidence such an elusive quality when delivering a presentation? If this is like you at all, how do you feel when you’re in front of an audience and getting ready to present? Very nervous? Palms sweating? Shallow breathing? Heart pounding? If we took everybody’s symptoms and put them all in a list you’d probably be surprised at just how many there are. And you would probably be amazed at just how many ‘confident presenters’ have actually experienced some of these feelings as well. So what do we need to do to become more confident? What effective confidence building techniques can you use to help you move into a more confident state when you are about to present. There are lots of different techniques you can employ. You need to try out a few to find out those that work best for you personally. Below are 3 key tips that probably everybody can use. Do your preparation. Know your audience, what makes them tick.Research your audience thoroughly. Then ensure that your presentation is designed with them in mind. Ensure you have a clear outline to your presentation. Keep it simple with a definite beginning, middle and end. And restrict your main points to 3 wherever possible. It will help you to keep track and as a result make it simpler for the audience to understand. Slow down your delivery. Don’t rush things. So be conscious of this and make an effort to keep in control. The tendency is often there to rush through things. But if you think ‘slow motion’ when you begin you will actually be more in control of things and this will give you a more confident manner. Try out these 3 simple ideas the next time you are asked to present. And you will find that you feel more confident before you start and that you feel more in control throughout your presentation.
