Recently I have decided to buy a new Machine. This decision came about after my mature desk top PC began to play up. It all started after I tried to install windows vista. I was unaware that my computer could not run vista successfully due to the poor memory which was only 512b. Once I installed it things began to go wrong as the system was far too small to cope with the huge demands vista put on it. So I took it along to a local Computer repairer who charged me £67.00 to upgrade my memory to 1.5 GB which at first was plenty. I suppose you can liken it to moving from a Skoda to a Jaguar. The system was rapid and I was finally able to explore vista, needless to say I wasn't impressed with the operating system. Fundamentally there was no difference from XP apart from the fact that every stretch I wanted to open a program an annoying popup asked for my permission. The side bar on the desktop is a convenient idea and I must admit I bring into play it quite a bit but for £77.00 I am sure I could have bought something better off the shelf rather than changing my operating system. After that I got greedy and decided I wanted more memory and more power so I decided to upgrade the PC myself. I found a fantastic web site which scanned my Computer and told me what memory I needed to by so I ordered 2gb of memory for £35.00, and a static bracelet and waited. 3 days later it arrived and after watching a short u tube instructional video I felt ready to fit it myself. Unbeknown to me, when I took off my PCs case, it looked nothing like the one on the DVD and the memory expansion slots were hidden behind the DVD drivers which I had to remove. Then I had trouble really pushing in the memory cards in to the slots due to the awkward positioning but after 30mins I did it and then put the case back together. I plugged it in and crossed my fingers and to my astonishment it booted up and when I ran a check it found the 2gb memory! So now I have a PC with 3.5 GB of RAM which is far more than I need but it feels good to know I can upgrade in the future without paying the extortionate prices to others. If anyone is thinking of upgrading their memory then I would urge them to research on Google after that attempt it themselves as it is an trouble-free duty. This was only a few weeks ago and since struggling with Vista, Microsoft have bought out windows 7 which looks good and my Computer is powerful enough to run so guess what I'm off to buy!
