The GM mission statement regarding their certified used vehicles is patently clear. They state:We maintain high standards for two very simple reasons - our good name and your valuable trust. We've built some of the most memorable vehicles in the world over the last century. But even more important, we have built relationships with our customer, one vehicle at a time. And we are going to continue our mission by dedicating ourselves to offering only the finest motor vehicles. Tony Jacobs a resident of Plantation, Florida was won over by the GM promise. Trusting in the strong guarantee that came with the car, Tony decided to purchase a certified second hand vehicle from a GM affiliate in Miami. He learned that the van he was about to buy had gone through a rigorous 117 point bumper to bumper inspection, and had passed the test. That means he was buying a worry free vehicle that came with a 12 month, or 12,000 mile warranty plus a limited additional 100,000 Mile, 5 Year Powertrain limited warranty. And on top of that, he had three days to test the vehicle, and if it didn't meet his standards he could return it. Mr Jacobs purchased a certified used van from Tropical Auto Group ( Tropical Chevrolet ) at: 8880 Biscayne Blvd Miami, FL 33138-3343 Phone: 1-866-791-4531 and unfortunately discovered after two days that the transmission wasn't working properly and the brakes were not in good condition either. He returned the van to the shop. The technician on duty checked out the van and admitted to Mr. Jacobs that the transmission was not working properly. But then, he informed Mr. Jacobs that the technician who repairs transmissions would be away for 1-2 months. Mr. Jacobs went to talk with Mark Diaz, the manager of Tropical Auto Group. Instead of resolving the problem in accordance with the contract, Mr. Diaz laughed at Mr. Jacobs and made fun of him in the presence of other customers. Mr. Jacobs then tried to resolve the problem by contacting Ian Wildstein, the owner of Tropical Chevrolet. However, Mr. Wildstein did not return his calls, and it seemed as if he was trying to avoid Mr. Jacobs all together. Mr. Jacobs had purchased the van under the impression that he was getting a guaranteed product. But instead of receiving proper treatment, Mr. Jacobs was cheated, and humiliated. His advice, after his harrowing experience is that anyone looking for a certified used GM product, should go elsewhere.
