Barclays Bank, who sponsor the English Premier League, have been holding a competition in India to unearth the country’s biggest football fan, in the “Biggest Fan of India” competition. They began their quest over six months back and 1000's upon 1000's of football supporters from all over the great continent applied for this reward, sending in scrapbooks, videos, photos as well as extensive letters in confirmation of their statements. The judges, with the ex-Man Utd legends Gary Pallister as well as Bryan Robson, must have had a hard period attempting to choose a champion from such a large group of entrants, nevertheless they finally decided to give the reward of 2 VIP tickets to a Premier League match to Aby Baby Kuruvilla, who had sent in a video of him singing long and passionately on the subject of his beloved Arsenal Football club! Aby, a twenty four year-old from Bangalore, is understandably thrilled about being flown in to England for tonights vital game between Arsenal against Liverpool at the Emirates. He said: “Winning the contest can be described as dream come true. It hasn’t yet sunk in that I’ll be travelling to the Emirates Stadium - the home of the Gunners - to watch the team play live. I’ve always supported Arsenal and will continue doing so until the end of time. I haven’t missed a single game of the team on TV for years. Thirty eight games a season is just not enough!” One of the judges, Bryan Robson, was pleased for Aby, and said: “We were over-whelmed at seeing the response from the contest. I would like to congratulate Aby, who obviously adores Arsenal Football Club. It was a tough decision to choose only one winner from the thousands of entries we received but Aby came across as the most passionate of all” Even Arsene Wenger welcomed Aby to the Emirates, and was happy that an Arsenal fan had been crowned as the greatest soccer fan in India. He said: “We are proud to have so many fans all over the world supporting Arsenal Football Club. We are delighted that Aby has won this special prize and we are truly grateful for his support towards Arsenal from so far away. We hope that Aby has a memorable trip to Emirates Stadium.” It is impressive to know of the fact that Barclays Premier League matches (380 a season) are beamed to in excess of five hundred million homes everywhere in the globe, however this game is maybe one of the most important of this season. Arsenal and Liverpool are currently third and fourth in the Premiership, therefore the winner will win an edge in the competition for the Champions League places at the end of the season. While Arsenal are still contenders to win the championship, they cannot afford to let go any more points after gaining only one from their previous 3 league games, whilst Liverpool have just about was able to regain a top four spot after a disappointing start to the season. Even though Liverpool won the big Merseyside derby at the weekend, they haven’t won at the Emirates for ten years, so they have a big disadvantage to beat to be triumphant tonight.
