How to Find the Perfect Wedding Gift

By: Jessie Stone

A wedding gift is supposed to be something that the newly-weds will love and cherish for years to come. Yet it doesn't seem to always end up this way. It will probably be stored in some obscure cabinet for decades. Or dumped in the basement along with all the other not-so-useful gifts. Or sold to a sweaty guy one hot Saturday afternoon – in a garage sale. You don't want your gift to end up on one of these ways so you better think wisely on your gift-giving habits. You probably have heard of the joke about a couple receiving seven toasters on their wedding day. Well, there are ways you can do to avoid being one of the seven wedding gift givers who handed over a toaster. A toaster is a good gift and the newly-weds probably need it but six other people are giving them so there's no point in giving it.

The first thing you'll probably think of buying as a wedding gift would be something that the couple needs in their house in their first days as husband and wife like appliances such as coffee makers, toasters and mini-ovens or utensils like cooking wares and dining utensils. These are great gifts but as we stated earlier almost everybody will be bringing these things. So what you do is think of something that is totally different but in some ways related to these things. Something that complements them. Like a kitchen ware organizer for instance. The newly-weds will probably receive a horde of wine glasses, drinking glasses, mugs, silverware or plates as gifts. The kitchen ware organizer therefore will come in very handy when they need something to keep all those things, well, organized.

The perfect wedding gift is one that matches the personal interests of both the bride and groom. It is therefore important when choosing a gift that you take into consideration the hobbies of the couple, what they do for a living, what sports do they play, what kind of music do they listen to, etc., etc.. Let us say for instance that the newly-weds are vegetarians. Giving them a barbecue grill will obviously be a huge mistake. So think of something that runs along the line of a vegetarian life. Like a cookbook of vegetarian dishes. Or tickets to a vegetarian conference. Or an instructional DVD on maintaining a vegan lifestyle.

Sometimes it is a very good idea to give them a wedding gift that not only touches on a hobby of theirs but gives them the chance to try something new. Let us say for example that the newly-weds love listening to all kinds of music. They go to concerts. They love musicals. They go to orchestra performances. They love music so much but they can't play a single musical instrument. Taking a cue from these, an acoustic guitar, a violin or a keyboard would be a beautiful gift for them.

Deciding on a wedding gift can be very difficult at times but more often than not all you really need to do is take a good long look at the couple and the things they love to do. There. you'll find your decision.
