For the purposes of this article, I will move you appreciate how to achieve a keyword research at no cost. Not knowing your background, I'll assume you have nominal understanding in keyword research yet with little or no cost, you can obtain access to one of the most used keyword research tools on the market. Even if there are many keyword research tools, I will assume you have a small budget and I will propose a free version of one of the better tools that's offered today. WordTracker.com is one of the best offered on the market at present and you can obtain a complimentary version at: . (There is a paid version of WordTracker.com, but the complimentary version will definitely suffice.) be directed to the "FREE Keyword Suggestion Tool". Begin by inserting 10 base keywords (one at a time) that you deem would be proper and click "Hit me". Though, for the "base" keywords, aim to stay away from generic keywords like "business" or "cars" as they are so imprecise, you will have no probability in obtaining any ranking on any top page. Be a bit more detailed initially. And to help keep track of your searches I like to use Google Documents which offers a spreadsheet format to chart & list your findings. This is also at no-cost, but you will need a Gmail account. Just go to: and open up an account. When you open up an account, go to the top and select "Documents". Then click on "New" and scroll down to "Spreadsheets". This will bring up a new spreadsheet for you to work to keep a record of your 10 base keywords along with your soon to be researched keywords. Examples of some "base keywords" or "seed keywords" could be: 1) home business 2) Online business from home 3) work from home After you have retrieved your spreadsheet, start by typing the top cell of each column 10 base keywords that you believe are relevant to your business model. Don't get a brain-clot, but just type in some seed keywords you believe to be relevant to your business. Go back to your keyword search tool and type in one of your base keywords and hit search (Hit me). WordTracker.com will quickly pull up a list of keywords reported as active. The left column will rank the specific keyword based on the total number of searches for that specific keyword. While to the right of the keyword displayed the actual search count according to WordTracker.com . Note that all of the words listed will have your base keyword or seed keyword in them. If I searched in Google "online business", WordTracker.com would return various keywords with the words "online business" within each long tail keyword. Therefore, when searching "online business" WordTracker.com returns a long tail keyword record that would include: "online home business", online based business", "business work online", etc., along with plenty of others. You will want to pick about 10 of these keywords to list in your spreadsheet under your base keyword "online business". Typically, it's a good idea to have the search result found by WorkTracker.com to be above 20 searches for each keyword you want to list on your chart. As several keywords with a search finding that reports search results less than 20 will not usually produce any noticeable clicks. However, a neat tool regarding WordTracker.com is that you can bore down even further in your keyword search by clicking onto one of the keywords listed (from your search) This will then provide what we call a "long-tail keyword" which will usually provide a higher quality lead if utilized correctly in your marketing. Leveraging this free limited WordTracker.com keyword tool can assign you up to 100 results for each base keyword searched for. Having said that, the paid WordTracker.com version will offer many more features without you having to constantly enter a security code. If you're using Google Adwords, you will want to name your AdGroups after your "base" keyword. And then list each "keyword" within each of your AdGroups when completing your campaigns. This of course does not account for any negative keywords which I'll need to address in a later article. Take a look at Part 2 of my Keyword Research Series which will help you drill down even further and thus, pin point your potential clients and strengthen your conversions. I'll also be posting these articles on my Twitter page, and would recommend following me if you're looking for more content. To Your Success, Joe Mackey
