One of the best Xbox 360 games at the time is Halo: Reach. Instead of being a sequel to the previous Halo games, it starts at the beginning, before the first game. The storyline is dramatic enough to involve the player in the game. Campaign mode now has all skulls unlocked before the game begins. By activating more skulls, your score multiplier increases. Another new part of campaign is the abundance of human weapons. Players can now go through a mission with only human weapons. Halo: Reach also has a Halo first- a space battle. The graphics of the game are stunning. Plasma weapons now leave molten areas where they hit the surroundings. One can see the energy shields recharge and mesh with the armor. A player’s armor can now be customized even more than Halo 3. There are over 20 different helmets alone! Armor modifications are unlocked with rank. Even though the new upgraded armor is more attractive, it does not affect gameplay. Armor modifications also change how players look in campaign and firefight. Elite armor is less customizable than Spartan armor, but unlocks the same way. Firefight, which was introduced in Halo 3/ODST, can now be player as a Spartan. In versus mode, one player is a Spartan and another plays as an Elite. After each round, they switch roles. The Spartan is a one-man army, while the Elite gets allies. The Firefight game types are customizable, allowing you to choose what each wave consists of. Another new part of Halo: Reach is the loadouts. These are similar to classes in other Xbox 360 games. You can customize loadout weapons, armor abilities, and grenades. Armor abilities add a new level of depth to the game. They include Sprint, Evade, Jetpack, Armorlock, Hologram, Dropshield, and Active Camouflage. Sprint and evade make your character move faster. Jetpacks allow you to fly. Armorlock makes one temporarily invulnerable, but unable to move while activated. Holograms produce a ghost of yourself that confuses enemies. Dropshields are like bubbleshields, but they also add health. Active Camouflage makes a character almost invisible. There are two new vehicles in the game. The Revenant is a cross between a Ghost and a Wraith. The Rocket Warthog is a Warthog with a rocket launcher in the back. The Artificial Intelligences in Halo: Reach are vastly improved over past games. Some will grab any vehicle they find, even enemy ones. The Forge is greatly improved over Halo 3. Rotation snap make placing new objects on maps much easier. There is a map called Forge World which is made to edit. Any vehicle can be placed on it. It has no structures of its own, so the player is free to build any fortress they want. Some of the new game types include Invasion, Infection, and Race. Invasion is a multi-stage CTF style game pitting Spartans against Elites. All units are human controlled. Infection has five normally armed and shielded Spartans defending themselves against three “Zombies.” If a zombie makes a kill, the other player becomes a zombie too. Zombies have no shields and can only carry energy swords. Race mode has players drive through checkpoints in Mongooses, Warthogs, Ghosts, or Banshees. With Xbox Live, a player can access Matchmaking. This pits them against different players across the world. If you have an Xbox Live party in the game, they can be on your team.
