Facebook has to clarify its advertisement rule thanks to corporations like Offerpal

By: Greg Jackson

I am not a vast enthusiast of Offerpal, it likely has an item to do with the truth that I, at one moment in time, liked playing Farmville. In order to be paid “farm cash” you had to either fill out surveys or send the game money. The last time I attempted to fill out the surveys (no, I on no account gave them my cell telephone number or anything apart from for an email address I use for spam anyway) I waited and waited and by no means got the “farm cash” I was promised. Ever since that day, I haven’t played Farmville.

This tradition has mademany of people on the site angry, including editor at TechCrunch Michael Arrington, who has gone after the CEO of Offerpal to receive some enlightenment about the business’s ethics.

Facebook posted in its blog about its advertisement policies and how it polices ads on the website.

The blog stated, “Our policies are apparent. If you’re an ad system and don’t comply with them, you are performing a disservice to your clientele, and you should assume your business prospects on Facebook to cease. The underlying issues here are larger than ads. They’re about building an experience that users will want to return to …no spam, no surprises.”

I wholly agree with Facebook here, but I do suppose that it should do an item to keep spammy advertisement networks away from the site (otherwise it will begin to look less like Facebook and start getting a reputation more along the lines of Myspace). Myspace is filled of spammy commercials that Facebook, up to now, has steered clear of for the most part.

The advertisement networks used to obtain the “premiums” in the games like Farmville, Mafia Wars, etc. are all pretty spammy and unless a person actually knows what they’re doing when they “sign up” for an “offer” or fill out some kind of question, then they could wind up being charged for the premium services on their cell phones or additional ways.
