I admit that this wireless device, and probably not powerful, but it's a wide rceiver range (136-174), and it might be interesting to test the local public service frequencies, in addition to its primary function as a radio. Kenwood TR-7950 2 meter transceiver Ham Radio can be a good choice as a decent base unit, and may work for somewone just starting a hobby, but probably more expensive than run-of-factory trnasceiver. But you get what you pay, and I always look for better quality parts, even if I have to pay a little extra. I'm rarely disappointed, though. With more than 45 watts of power, Kenwoood has 21 channel memory, scan functoin and automatic repeater offset.This one I notticed a transaction of less than $ 150, and it was restored on the detyails of hobbyist. This unit, which would probably be satisfied.
