The original Dead Rising was a sleeper hit on the Xbox 360, it was one of the earlier launches in the console's launch history, and it largely went under the radar for the first part of its life. It was not until fans of the zombie genre started picking it up that the buzz began, and from there, the game exploded..it was hugely popular amongst the Xbox 360, and went on to spawn a dumbed down Wiimake called Dead Rising: Chop Til You Drop, which was a port that included the Wii's classic waggle. From then on, everybody knew a sequel was inevitable, and waited anxiously for it. Then Dead Rising 2 was announced; at first, people were excited to get behind their favorite war-time journalist from the first game, Frank West..but it was announced that the main character of the sequel would in fact be a motocross athlete by the name of Chuck Greene. This upset many fans, but it was something to get over considering the scale of the sequel. The first game took place in a mall complex, with four or five major sections of the mall, and the mall's "park" center, and then the underground parking garage. It was a huge map, but it easily could have been bigger. With Dead Rising 2, the map grew considerably. This sequel takes place in a fictional Fortune City, something that can be compared to a scaled-down Las Vegas. Being that Dead Rising was one of the best Xbox 360 games, there was a huge challenge for Dead Rising 2 to live up to the reputation, especially considering a different team was making this sequel. Instead of photography, players are allowed to take advantage of Chuck's ingenuity by making weapons. That's right...making weapons! With a little duct tape and imagination, you get to craft your ideal killing tool from hundreds of different ingredients. For example, one of the most favorite weapons to make includes a Flashlight and Gems from a diamond store. Anybody with Star Wars knowledge will immediately think of a light-saber when the possibility of a flashlight and gems becoming a weapon arises; and that is exactly what happens. Combine the two, and you have a deadly beam of energy that can kill zombie or human with little effort! The story for this sequel is something a little more family-friendly. Considering this isn't one of the more casual Xbox 360 games, this story is about as family-friendly as a zombie game will get. Chuck plays his motocross-style zombie-killing game show in order to make enough money to be able to afford a cure for his daughter's ailment; she was bit while they were escaping their home, the same instance his wife perished in, and requires Zombrex every 24 hours. In game, you can either find Zombrex through special missions, or you can just horde cash and buy some at a shop. PP and leveling is essentially the same in this sequel, as well as the combat; the team behind this title kept the best parts of the original and just added onto it. Dead Rising 2 truly is one of the best Xbox 360 games of 2010, and maybe of the console's lifetime.
