American Criminals

Throughout America’s history there have been thousands of criminals. In 2008, there were 2.3 million individuals behind bars. And approximately one in every nineteen men in the United States is in jail . Britain sent more than soldiers to the colonists - they banished robbers and thieves to the New World as wellEngland used to ship some of their criminals to the colonies when America first began, and the U.S. has always been a defiant nation with unruly citizens. We are well known for not liking the strictures of society at times. That mindset has continually been passed on over time. It is not surprising then, that The United States has had more than their fair share of notorious criminals such as the following seven so this is a good thing there’s the perception of a strong body of law officers.
Early in America's history there wasn’t much in the way of law regulations, but as the country expanded the need for officers and others to uphold the law grew as well. There have been some sharp and merciless criminals. Fortunately, there have been scores of officers who have made sacrifices and endangered themselves in order to capture these criminals and keep the public safe. With a lot of time and effort, officers were able to stop the crimes that were being committed by these seven individuals.
1. Jesse James - was a gang leader, bank and train robber and was a murderer as well. He was not captured by the law but was gunned down by a member of his own gang.
2. Al Capone - or Scarface Al - The infamous mobster was arrested and charged for smuggling alcohol during the Prohibition era but was only convicted of income-tax evasion. He did his time in Alcatraz.
3. Bonnie and Clyde - During the Great Depression this pair robbed a dozen banks and were allegedly guilty of killing approximately 9 police officers and numerous civilians. They were later killed by police.
4. Ted Bundy - The serial killer was identified as the perpetrator of more than 30 murders but the actual number is unclear. It was in Florida in 1989 that he was executed for his final murder.
5. Frank Abagnale Jr., - He was known for check fogery that earned him $2.5 million throughout twenty six countries during the 1960s. He also passed himself off as a pilot, teaching assistant, doctor, lawyer, and 4 separate guises. He is currently employed as an American security consultant for the FBI and operates his own company.
6. Timothy McVeigh - This army vet was convicted and executed for his role in the Oklahoma City bombing where one hundred and sixty eight lives were lost.
7. Colton Harris Moore - The 18-year-old remains adept enough to dodge authorities many times. He is suspected of stealing four aircraft, a boat and a vehicle as well as perpetrating home burglaries in the Pacific Northwest.

Six of these criminals used to be, while 1 still is a challenge to law enforcement officials. We can be sure more will be apprehended in days to come. Criminal Justice is a profession that is expected to grow in the coming years and it has great job security. Now is the time to start working on your degree so you can be a moving force to keep this nation safer.
