ADD is known as a disorder of the neurological type triggered in the brain by a problem in the dopamine neurotransmitter systems. Genetic factors play a massive part in many cases. There is a 30% chance for a child to have ADD if a parent or a close relative has the disorder. In instances of twin children, if one of the pair suffers from ADD, the other’s odds of suffering from the disorder raises by 50%. In the past it was assumed that ADD is brought on by malnutrition, however it became apparent that it is an incorrect assumption. Bad parenting, allergic reactions and medicines, don't explain ADD either. There are some other conditions that show symptoms that look like ADD, but are not ADD. Some of these conditions are thyroid irregularities, fatal alcohol syndrome, lead intoxication, and deep head trauma. %%% Having ADD implies that a person suffering from it is not receiving enough neuro-chemicals. In simpler words it means that ADD signifies that proper stimulation of the brain is missing. Due to that, the brain attempts to find ways by which the release of chemicals can increase. Movements and physical activity, are means for individuals with ADD ot try to stimulate their brains. They do not do that consciously. Their hyperactive behavior is like a reflex that they cannot do without. People with ADD attempt to stimulate their brains with things like physical activities, movements, and at all times doing things that are stimulating. They don't try this consciously. Their hyperactive behavior is something like a reflex that they cannot do without. Having ADD means that an individual having it, is not getting an adequate level of neuro-chemicals. Phrased in simpler terms it means that proper stimulation of the brain is missing. As a result of that the brain attempts to seek out strategies by which the release of the chemicals may be increased. The issue brought on by this is that individuals who are suffering from ADD, when face a circumstance that don't stimulate them, like school work, try to put their attention on something that's stimulating to them. Of course the school work is completely hampered by this, and the child cannot perform well in his or her studies. %%% Listen to this story that my friend has told me. This incident occurred when knowledge about ADD was poor. There was a child who would abruptly get up on his desk when the class is still commencing, and would start to tell jokes. At the start people thought that he was trying to be funny and consciously disturb the others. In fact, his actions were past his control, but this was clear to everybody only after it became apparent that the kid has ADD. People with ADD tend to face employment problems, and they are prone to experience problems with their interpersonal relations. In some cases they behave recklessly when on the lookout for stimulation, and sometimes they can be harmful to themselves and to others. Sometimes they even end up in jail.
