A Female Artist and Experimental Techniques

There are six local artists and they will demonstrate their individual approaches to animal painting in a program that a museum is holding in conjunction with its animal friends exhibit. The job of each artist is to create an animal theme painting in the museum galleries and then talk informationally with the visitors telling them about the style and techniques they used to capture the image and spirit of the animals they painted. It was an executive director from the museum who said that people of different cultures and backgrounds find special meanings in animals.

Buffalos provide a symbol of spirituality while doves act as signs of peace. Cherished friends are signified by dogs while red tailed hawks represent good omens. Considering how animals have been the subjects of artistic endeavor since the beginning of time from petroglyphs to cave murals to oil paintings to jewelry they continue to remain favored all over the world.

She is an avid explorer of techniques, ideas, and styles according to this female artist. Her methods have been developed over a long career of teaching, consulting and in workshop presentations and publications. A founding member of a local society of watercolorists, she is listed in who's who in the west.

One of the female artists came from southern California and before moving to her hometown in 1983 she studied art and watercolor. The themes she works with include people and animal portraits not to mention landscapes and floral studies. Other than resulting from her aggressive use of pigment, the director said that her style also results from her ability to push the watercolor medium into works of unusual size without sacrificing the brilliance of transparent watercolor.

There is one artist who studied at a famous college and at the art center of college of design in Los Angeles. What his work was back in Chicago was as a graphic designer but he has exhibited nationally including the national watercolor exhibition in environment. Not only will each of the artists be creating presentations and publications in Springfield, Illinois but also in local and regional venues as well.

What followed graduating with high honors from New York's school of art for the fourth artist is a period of study at the University of California in Los Angeles. It was at Washington school of art's 12th annual competition where she won the best of show. According to a reviewer, her work is full of psychological poignancy as parts of a famous director's film thereby giving a precious glimpse of human drama.

Earning her degree in painting from Kansas university school of fine arts was the fifth artist. She paints in her own interpretive style of realism, giving the viewer a feeling of the atmosphere and mood of the subject. The artist has participated in the Kansas landscape which is a traveling exhibition shown at the Smithsonian institution in Washington, DC not to mention in juried exhibitions and a number of one person shows.

For eight years, the sixth artist studied Chinese brush painting with a noted Chinese painter and this led to the culmination of her study of art and refinement of painting skills. To the northern New Mexican environment was where she has adapted this style of painting, lifted or erased during creation. Mentioned by the director of the museum was that they are honored to welcome these distinguished artists from the society of watercolorists to the museum and reiterated was their commitment to artists and designers working showing up.

Considering the current animal friends exhibition, it has been specially selected for the pleasure of audiences both young and old. In this workshop, visitors will definitely enjoy how the artists create portraits of their own special animal friends. Founded in 1992 was the society of watercolorists and it has a mission to encourage the local and national production as well as appreciation of professional quality watercolors.
