6 Simple Photography Tips to Take Stunning Photos

By: Mike Davis

You want to enhance the quality of your digital photos? Here are a few simple photography tips that you can use to make all your digital photos more vibrant and full of life.

1. Put your subject off center in the photograph. No one wants to look at boring, static compositions. When you simply place your subject off center, the photo will become more interesting instantly .

2. Take away the distractions. When you see someone picking up trash in the background of a photo, you immediately shift your attention from the subject to the distracting element . Try and change the camera angle so the distraction will be left out of the frame. The most common distractions are trees or telephone poles that seem to be growing out of the subject's head.

3. Try different angles. Use different angles other than eye-level shots. Try climbing a ladder or a tree to get a bird's eye view, or try going low on the ground and get a bug's eye view. A common technique is to turn the camera on its side to get a portrait shot rather than a landscape view. Simply changing camera angles can make a simple photograph interesting.

4. Use the flash even in the sunlight. A simple technique that professionals use all the time is to use the flash if the subject is in the shadows; this brings out more of the detail. Using this technique will create a balance between the subject's highlights and it's deeply shadowed areas. You can also use a reflective umbrella so you can limit the amount of light that you will use to fill the area, unlike the camera's flash; it will give your photos a seemingly professional touch.

5. Take lots and lots of pictures. Back in the good old days, camera film and photo developing costs are very cheap ; but in these modern times memory is much cheaper. So take a lot of pictures. Try a lot of different angles, and when you've explored every possible angle, shoot some more! You can never be too certain if you've gotten the right angle that will greatly complement your subject's expressions. After you're satisfied with the number of pictures you've taken, review them one by one and delete the ones that you don't like. A lot of pictures taken will mean that the chance of getting a really good shot is going to be pretty high.

6. Always keep a tripod handy. There will be times when you will want to get maximum depth of field, meaning you want the foreground and the background in focus. To obtain this you will need to use a very small aperture and oftentimes a very long exposure time. For this to work without making the picture blurry, you will need a tripod. A tripod is invaluable especially if you're using a zoom lens; camera shake is amplified by how much zoom length you use.

These are just a few digital photography tips that you can use to create real stunning photographs of your own.
